How to Become Scientist at ISRO

With the announcement of CBSE Results, many students face problems and are left confused and clueless about career selection. There are a number of actual jobs that children often dream of having. Students typically want these jobs because of the excitement, fame, or the chance to help other people. Any student who has enjoyed making putty or “goo” out of glue and starch has likely dreamed of becoming a scientist. Scientists are individuals with several extraordinary qualities. However, these qualities differ among scientists from various disciplines and depend on the nature and type of research a scientist is engaged in. And, what can be more adventurous than working as a scientist at ISRO.

The Indian Space and Research Organization(ISRO) has it’s the mission of upbringing space to the service of the common man and to the service of the nation. It has also achieved to be the one among the six largest space agencies in the world. ISRO delivers and develops application-specific satellite tools and products to the nation: weather forecast, Geographic Information System, telemedicine, etc.

To become a scientist at ISRO one should keep the following points in mind:

  1. The candidate has to opt for physics and Math in 10+2 and should have a thorough knowledge of the topics related to both the subjects.
  2. It will be easier to get selected in ISRO as a scientist if the candidate gets admission in Indian Institute of Science and Technology (IIST).
  3. ISRO often recruits candidates from NIITs, IITs or various reputed private as well as government institutes. So to get shortlisted for such job one has to be graduated in B.Tech courses like Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer science engineering, and Refrigeration & Air conditioning Engineering. Sometimes there are vacancies for civil engineers as well.
  4. To stand out in the selection process of ISRO for hiring a fresher as a scientist one must have a good record academically throughout. Because the threshold for the selection process is not so liberal.
  5. ISRO conducts an exam called Centralized Recruitment Bangalore(CRB) for recruiting candidates. Candidates must have BE/B.Tech or equivalent qualification in first class with an aggregate minimum of 65% marks (average of all semesters for which results are available) or CGPA 6.84 on a ten scale. Minimum of 65% marks or CGPA 6.84 in section B alone for candidates with AMIE/Grad IETE qualification. After clearing the interview, aspirants can get appointed as scientists at ISRO.
  6. After completing M.Tech or D. in trades like instrumentation, geophysics, geoinformatics, applied mathematics, instrumentation or any other equivalent topic in physics or mathematics, aspirants can directly apply for the job of scientists at ISRO. For this, the selection process includes a written test followed by an interview. After clearing these phases one can get selected as a scientist at ISRO.
  7. For this type of job profile, one must have the best knowledge, very calm attitude and good wits.

So it is important to keep in mind that the job of a Scientist would surely not be easy and the working hours in such jobs are uncertain. Candidate must have deep knowledge and a mindset for tackling tricky situations.”Freewriting materials for scientist and students here
